Ali Muhammad

Former refugee and community advocate, passionate about youth identity issues and human rights.


As a young person who experienced the challenges of resettlement in a new country, Ali understands firsthand the importance of creating safe and supportive spaces for young people to explore their identities and navigate the complex issues facing their communities.

Ali describes Festival for the Future as “3 years worth of learning in 3 days”. He first took part in the Future Leaders programme run by Inspiring Stories in 2018, has attended Festival for the Future many times, been a finalist for The Impact Awards, and is part of the Youth Advisory Group for Inspiring Stories.

As a community advocate, Ali has been involved in a range of initiatives aimed at supporting young refugees, including mentoring programs, community events, and advocacy campaigns. He is a strong believer in the power of community-driven initiatives and grassroots movements to effect positive change.

With a passion for social justice and equality, Ali has made it his mission to raise awareness and support for marginalised communities in New Zealand. He has worked with a range of organisations and initiatives focused on empowering young people and promoting human rights.
