Toby Lane

CEO of NewFish – harnessing the power of microscopic marine and fresh water algae to revolutionise the food system.

Our food feeds our culture. And some areas require rethinking.

Agriculture accounts for 21% of global greenhouse gas emissions – more than the world’s transport system. In New Zealand, this number soars to greater than 50%. Climate adaptation is real and pressing.

Currently most natural proteins come from animals that do not factor in the true costs on our environment, and require the constant manipulation of sentient animal life. Meanwhile, many plant-based alternatives do not offer the same nutritional profile or taste as animal proteins.

To nurture people and planet, we urgently need alternative sources of natural, high-quality protein utilising technologies that mitigate environmental externalities.

NewFish exists to reinstate protein abundance while protecting our natural resources by creating microalgae nutrition products.

As the CEO of NewFish, Toby leads international team with global ambition to instigate positive change by bridging timeless food traditions with new technology.
